National Snack Food Month: Mindful Snacking

Snacks with functional ingredients that support brain function and help reduce stress are providing a holistic approach to snacking.
Adaptogens and nootropics are showing up in snacks and beverages as consumers are increasingly looking for mindful snacking options. Adaptogens are components of herbal medicines that help the body respond to mental and physical stressors. Nootropics are natural substances that enhance cognitive performance. Some plants and herbs function as both an adaptogen and nootropic. Communicating the benefits of these ingredients on front of pack can be challenging. Branding, including supporting copy, graphics and product naming can clearly help the consumer in making purchase decisions.
